Basically gents if you are playing Rugby you are an idiot not to have private health insurance – it is an absolute must.  By playing a collision sport like Rugby you will get injured, should you have a major injury – like an ACL rupture in your knee, you are looking at $10 000 – $15 000 if you are going to pay for it yourself.

This cost does not include going to see your physiotherapist for post operative rehabilitation.

If you are privately insured the costs are largely met by your health fund (depending on your level of cover).

  • At a minimum you should have hospital cover and extras cover (for physiotherapy, podiatry, exercise physiology, dietician services etc).  Over the course of the season you are very likely to need physiotherapy and other services.

  • Make sure you do your research and get your own advice on health insurance, funds vary widely in terms of cost and cover provided.  The iselect website is a good place to check out and compare health funds.
