Armidale Rugby Carnival Trip

Right lads. Despite the name this ain’t gonna be no carnival.

We are looking to take a team (or 2) that aims to win the tournament.* It will be comprised of the best available players based on selections made during pre-season training.

Cost will be about $100 for accommodation. The club will be providing a bus.

We are looking to determine preference of return date depending on interest in the Armidale Cup Races on Monday.

We will be leaving for Armidale, Friday 16th March at 10am

The options for return are:

  • Leave Monday 11am (no races)
  • Leave Monday 3pm (some races)
  • Leave Tuesday 11am (all the races and a hangover)

Please reply with your interest in the competition and preference for the return dates. Thanks to those who have already replied, just your preference for the return dates will suffice.

New Calendar

There is a flash new calendar on the website which can be found here. It has all this year’s game days and a host of other stuff (Super 15, Wallabies, 6 Nations, Dunny’s birthday). It utilises the magic of colour to help distinguish the events and make it look pretty. Apologies to all those who only see things in black and white. Further apologies to those who have a sense of colour coordination and have become disillusioned, if not offended, by the poor colour choices made by the calendar’s author.

You’ll now have all the help you need to start planning which weekends that injuries require ‘just that little bit more rest’ so you can go skiing, catch the test in Perth or stay up all night in anticipation of the Glee 3rd season premier.**

Sleep USA Tourists Sleep

As all those who took the tour know, the San Francisco 49ers won their divisional playoff game on Sunday morning (what does that mean? – Ed.) in a very exciting final 3 minutes regaining, relinquishing then regaining the lead to win. And I missed all this because Foxtel IQ decided that the last few minutes of the 3.5 hours wasn't important. They did the same thing again on the replay. Was it Foxtel? was it ESPN? Was it me? I'm just looking for someone to blame.

Here are the boys enjoying the mighty 49ers late last year. This was the only 5 minutes of the game that everyone was actually awake.

I personally enjoyed the game and have derived much satisfaction from the 49ers subsequent success. A result of opening my mind to a new experience gained on yet another superb Shammy Tour.

* Clearly both teams can aim to win but only 1 can. That’s the nature of competitive sport. It’s harsh but fair but that’s why we love it. Look it’s not as harsh as waiting for 24 years to win your next cup and then the French pinch it at the end... what?....they actually didn’t?.....they only almost did?......okay. So yeah, The Armidale cup, and the coming season, much like the world cup only in NSW and called something completely different.

** This statement not endorsed by First Grade Coach Snicks. Harry Potter on the other hand is quietly partial to a bit of Glee and in fact owns the Wii game Glee Wii.
