About Us
Welcome to Petersham Rugby, Australia’s original and oldest Subbies Rugby Club.

About Petersham Rugby
Since our club’s founding, way back in 1883, the players at Petersham RUFC have always been at the heart of grass roots rugby in Australia.
From participating in Australia’s first ever junior rugby competition, to being founding members of what is now the NSW Suburban Rugby Union, Petersham embraces each new season. We have won Subbies Rugby’s biggest prize, the Kentwell Cup, on four occasions, and through it all we have held fast to the true spirit of rugby.
We welcome all. We tour the world. We play for love, not money. We’re the best of mates and the toughest of foes. Come and join us, be part of the Shammies community.
We field five senior teams and at least one colts team, catering for all levels of playing experience. We are a famously social bunch, providing plenty of off field activities to round out the rugby experience. We welcome local players and travelers, so if you are looking to spend time living and working in the Sydney, the Harbour City, get in touch.
Our location and Home Ground
We’re based at Camperdown Oval in the heart of Newtown, in Sydney’s Inner West. Training is on every Tuesday and Thursday, from 6.45pm at Camperdown Oval on Mallett St, Camperdown.
